Program dates: May 23, 2022 – June 27, 2022 (Extended Summer Session)

This program is ideal for students majoring or minoring in Spanish who want to explore one of Latin America’s jewels: Costa Rica. Students enroll in two of the four Spanish courses offered and complete six credit hours over the five-week program. UGA instructors teach our courses following the guidelines established by the Department of Romance Languages at UGA.

The program combines experiential, hands-on activities with structured classes and presentations to provide students with meaningful academic and cultural experiences. Our classes meet daily at the modern and vibrant campus of Veritas University, a fully accredited private university just ten minutes away from downtown San José, where our students are welcome to participate in all extracurricular activities.

Students will experience daily language and cultural immersion while living with Costa Rican host families, who have been thoroughly vetted and recommended by the study-abroad staff at Veritas University. Each student is guaranteed an individual room and will share breakfast and dinner daily with the host family.

Our Spanish courses are:

SPAN  3010: Spanish Cultural Dialogues (3 credits) – prerequisite SPAN 2002  / SPAN 2120H
SPAN 3020: Writing Critically in Spanish (3 credits) – prerequisite SPAN 2002 / SPAN 2120H
SPAN 3050: Introduction to Spanish Linguistics (3 credits) – prerequisites SPAN 3010  & 3020
SPAN 4150: Business Spanish (3 credits) – prerequisites SPAN 3010  & 3020
